How does the pet relocation process work?
Pet relocation involves several steps, including pre-travel health checks, vaccinations, crate training, permits, and flight arrangements. Our team will guide you through each step to ensure a smooth journey for your pet.
Can My Pet Travel with Me on the Same Flight?
Yes! Your pet can travel on the same flight as you; however, they will be checked in as cargo, which follows a different process than your own check-in.
Is it safe for pets to travel in cargo?
Yes! Airlines have special climate-controlled and pressurized cargo areas designed for pets. We follow International Air Transport Association (IATA) guidelines to ensure your pet's safety throughout the journey.
How far in advance should I start planning my pet’s relocation?
We recommend starting the process at least 3-6 months in advance, as some destinations have strict vaccination and quarantine requirements. Some countries, like Australia and New Zealand, have longer preparation timelines and you should start planning at least 7 months before your desired travel date.
Does my pet need vaccinations or health certificates to travel?
It depend on the country/region you are travelling to. All pets exporting from Australia require a Government Health Certificate & Export permit. We’ll provide you with a customized checklist based on your destination.
Can I sedate my pet for the flight?
No, sedation is strongly discouraged by veterinarians and airlines, as it can cause respiratory and cardiovascular issues at high altitudes. Instead, we recommend natural calming aids, crate training, and familiar comfort items such as blankets.
Additionally, An animal’s natural ability to balance and maintain equilibrium is altered under sedation, so when a kennel is moved the animal may not be able to brace and prevent injury. Sedation does not affect the anxiety of animals.
The Australian Veterinary Association has compiled information regarding the use of sedatives and anti-anxiety medication used during travel.
